Biometric Authenticated Payments

Biometric authenticated payments deals with the area of authenticating a payment transaction based on the biometric (fingerprint) identity of a customer, as compared to the more commonly used signature or PIN. Biometrics provides a much higher level of security and with the technology maturing over the years is fast gaining acceptance in the payment segment also. Biometric authentication mechanism are primarily of two kinds, a) offline, in which the authentication is done against a fingerprint template stored in a smart card and b) online, in which the authentication is done against a template stored online in a database.
